i'm not familiar with the history of Indiana. How big is this?

You're right, I should've provided context. The last Democrat that got Indiana's electoral votes was Lyndon Johnson in 1964. In 1992 and 1996, it was the only state in the entire Midwest to vote Republican (counting the Dakotas as Great Plains states, anyway). In fact, it was the only state east of the Mississippi and north of the Mason-Dixon to vote against Clinton even once, and it did so twice. It voted for George W. Bush in 2004 to the tune of 60% (Texas only gave him one percentage point more).
